The Framed Tokonoma
of Toshoin

In the Japanese home, tea house or Zendo, the tokonoma is the focal point of the main room. It is a raised alcove in which art is displayed, usually a hanging scroll and a flower arrangement. It is central to meditation and the tea Ceremony.
